Florida is known for its warm climate year-round, but in the summer, it feels like everything is melting. It’s truly miserable to be outside so coming indoors to enjoy a cooled home feels wonderful. Unfortunately, when you get that power bill in the Florida PanHandle, you may wonder just how you’ll ever afford your annual summer vacation with those high energy costs.
Not to fear though. There are some things you can do to help keep your power bill lower in Florida’s insane summer heat.
- Set your thermostat higher
It’s no surprise that the air conditioner is the culprit behind much of your higher summer energy costs. Turning it off completely would be misery though, but a simple solution is to set it to 78 degrees, or higher even if you dare. You could save hundreds of dollars annually if you were to follow the recommended cooling temperatures for each season.
- Switch to a programmable thermostat
While you’re at it, make a smart investment by replacing old thermostats. The programmable ones allow you to set it and forget it. They will hold the temperature in place and keep things running as efficiently as possible for your air conditioning.
- Use fans
