FAQ

Q: How often should I have my HVAC system checked?

A: Ideally, once a year. Given the heavy mechanical nature of HVAC systems, they can be prone to wear.

Q: How can I tell if I need HVAC service

A: You probably need service if your energy bills do not reflect your usage, or the performance of your HVAC system begins to wane. Also, check for odors coming from any vents in your home.

Q: Can HVAC equipment be serviced by a do-it-yourselfer or a handyman?

A: It is always recommended that you contact a certified HVAC technician. These systems are very complex and require extensive knowledge and experience to maintain.

Q: How often should I get my A/C or heat checked?

A: At least every two years, so that we can clean the drain line, check the refrigerant level, filter, and inspect the coils for dirt and debris.

Q: Should I have a programmable T-STAT?

A: It will help save money in operating costs on the heating and cooling of your home.

Q: My system uses R-22, what do I do?

A: R-22 is being phased out by the EPA. There is a limited supply, and “drop in refrigerant” is not the same as R-22. We suggest getting a quote on a new system, depending on cost of repair vs replacement.

Q: What is the proper size of a replacement A/C heat pump or gas furnace?

A: A trained mechanical contractor or your local utility company can give you a ” heat load calculation” to size the system accordingly.

Q: How often should I change the filter?

A: It is recommended that you check/or change your filter once per month.

Q: How often should the drain lines be cleaned?

A: It is recommended that you check/clean your water drain lines once per month to prevent expensive repairs or replacement.

Q: Have there been changes in the refrigerants used in AC?

A: Yes, click to read this information from the EPA.

Q: What should I check before I call?

A: Filters, Breakers, and the Float switch/ drain line.

Q: What does it mean if my A/C freezes up?

A: If the A/C freezes up that is usually a sign of low air flow. Some probable causes include a dirty filter, dirty evap coil, blower inop, low refrigerant, bad TXV, or bad contactor.

Q: What is SEER rating?

A: SEER stands for “Seasonal energy efficiency rating.” As defined by AHRI, “SEER is a mathematically determined ratio of the total cooling capacity during normal periods of operation (not to exceed 12 months) divided by the total electric energy input during the same time period.” Basically the higher the rating the less electricity it uses.

Q: What does my warranty cover?

A: Parts and manufacture defects. Consult your warranty papers or the manufacturer’s website.

Q: Is it required to have a permit on a unit replacement?

A: YES it is Section 105, of the 7th edition Florida building code governs permitting.

Q: What is SEER 2?

A: Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio 2. It is the new testing procedure, and requirements implemented by the D.O.E. to take effect Jan 1, 2023. M1 testing will be used by all manufacturers.
